GIFT AID

You will probably have heard about Gift Aid - the Government Scheme that enables Charities to reclaim tax on donations and subscriptions received from people who pay income tax or capital gains tax. The scheme replaces Deeds of Covenant and at present would add 28p to every £1 donated/subscribed.

Note:

1. You must pay an amount of income taxand/or Capital Gains tax at least equal to the tax charity reclaims on your donations in the tax year.
2. You can cancel the declaration at any time, including a change in your circumstances that means you no longer pay tax on your income and Capital Gains tax equal to the tax the charity reclaims.
3. If you pay tax at the higher rate you can claim further relief in your Self Assessment Tax return.
